The Challenge

In mining operations, haul truck tyres are critical to both safety and productivity. A tyre blowout on a heavy vehicle can lead to serious accidents, costly downtime and extensive damage to machinery. Unlike passenger vehicles, mining trucks operate in remote locations, often hundreds of kilometres from maintenance facilities, where a failure can take hours or even days to fix.

This makes early detection and monitoring essential. Knowing the condition of tyres in real time not only protects the operators but also prevents costly disruptions to the mines. Recognising this challenge, Decoda developed RockAware™, a system designed to monitor tyre wear and haul road conditions; and Hetech played a key role in turning this innovative idea into reality.

The Solution: Prototyping the RockAware™ System

Hetech partnered with Decoda to manufacture the electronics for RockAware™, an advanced tyre wear and haul road monitoring system. Using smart sensors and embedded electronics, the system continuously detects hazardous road conditions and abnormal tyre wear, alerting operators before issues escalate into costly failures.

Beyond initial prototyping, Hetech applied Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to optimise the electronics for repeatable, reliable production. This ensured RockAware could be built efficiently at scale without compromising performance.
