Do you require professional PCB assembly services? At Hetech, we offer the highest quality SMT, or surface-mount technology, assembly processes.
As electronics design and manufacturing experts, we have the relevant skills and experience to deliver high-quality assembly services. Our machine room contains the latest technology, is fully ESD compliant and is able to handle PCB assembly projects of all sizes. Our fully automated component feeding, wave soldering and automated inspection ensure every project we complete meets our high standards.
What is SMT?
SMT is the method of mounting components onto circuit boards directly, rather than soldering between two points on a circuit board, known as through-hole. SMT was developed to use PCB space more efficiently and lower production costs, which is why the method is still popular today. Compared to other assembly methods, this process is generally considered more accurate due to its high level of automation.
What are the benefits of SMT?
• Size: With SMT, components are smaller in size so more can be fitted onto the board compared to the through-hole assembly process. As the board can be reduced in size, its weight is similarly reduced to 1/10th compared to through-hole assembly.
• Cost: PCB manufacturing costs can be reduced as fewer holes are required reducing the amount of drilling required on the circuit board.
• Speed: The SMT process can be completed at a much quicker and controlled rate. Every step in the process from component placement to inspection can be automated, preventing human error and creating faster results.

At Hetech, we were delighted to welcome Park Ridge State High School electronics students to our facility last week to teach them about the local electronics manufacturing industry, and guide them through the opportunities available.
The students were introduced to our manufacturing processes, which are unparalleled in Australia and across the world, during a tour of our large assembly and production floor, onsite warehouse and storage, offices and meeting facilities.
Our highly skilled staff were on hand to answer questions about the manufacture of integrated electronic systems that support a range of industries, including mining, defence, transport, water management and utilities.
As part of the educational visit, the students were also shown how our automated conformal coating machine works by applying a protective polymer film or chemical coating that ‘conforms’ to the circuit board topology.
Its purpose is to protect electronic circuits from harsh environments that may contain moisture and or chemical contaminants.
It was an absolute pleasure to spend the afternoon with the students and show them around our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
It’s exciting to see more and more electronics students emerging in schools, all enthusiastic, and keen to learn about the exciting world of technology and the opportunities available to them.
However, it’s up to businesses, schools and governments to provide as much assistance and exposure as possible for students, to pursue their career in the industry. We urge anyone who is involved in the electronics or STEM industries to reach out to your local government or schools, even if it is to simply offer an afternoon to show some students around your workplace.
As your electronics, design and manufacturing partner, Hetech is committed to supporting young people and the opportunities available to them in STEM fields, which increase young people’s choices and chances through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
